La Tirolesa

Creative Director, Aerial Choreographer, and Performer

In December 1988, Baldinu and La Organización Negra took performing arts to new heights with “La Tirolesa/Obelisco”. This groundbreaking show transformed Buenos Aires’s iconic Obelisco into an aerial stage, where characters danced 60 meters above ground, challenging the boundaries of traditional theater.

The impact of “La Tirolesa/Obelisco” extended beyond Buenos Aires, with performances at the Banco de Boston in Mexico and an old railway station in São Paulo during the 21st Bienal, solidifying Baldinu’s revolutionary vision and his ability to reinvent the performance space. With over 30,000 spectators, this show marked a turning point in urban theater.

La Organización Negra, co-founded and directed by Pichón Baldinu with a group of artists, pioneered street theater with a daring approach that reflected the era’s distortions. Known for its urban performances emerging from the avant-garde, punk spirit, and the urban landscape of the 1980s, the company left a significant mark on theatrical innovation.
